Project Number: 3052
Situation: Somaliland is a de facto independent state in West Somalia that has not yet received international recognition. Its history is marked by countless wars and conflicts, and although relative stability has been achieved since independence in 1991, many people still live in poverty. Especially women and children are affected by the aftermath of the conflicts.
Project Description: Partner Aid International is planning to start a health project in the districts Salahley and Balli-Gubadle as of 2009. The aim of the project is to ensure sustainable change in Somaliland’s healthcare system. Especially children and women are to benefit from these changes.

The project comprises several aspects. Village communities are to receive health training. In order to achieve this, each of the 25 villages in the two districts are to send out two representatives who are to receive medical training. Midwives are also to be trained. Health experts and doctors are to be recruited for the local hospitals, where they can also provide further health training. Additionally, medical supplies and appliances are provided for local health facilities.
