Darfur - No End of Crisis

(Google Maps)

Project Number: 2011

PartnerAid has been working in Darfur since 2005 to provide aid through medical relief and community education and development.

The security situation in Darfur is constantly changing, requiring PartnerAid to find flexible and creative approaches to humanitarian aid. The beneficiaries of PartnerAid work in Darfur include ‘internally displaced persons’ who have fled their homes, ‘returnees’ who are trying to rebuild their lives and ‘host communities’ who struggle in under-developed villages. PartnerAid strives to help these persons maintain dignity in their lives, receive the medical aid they need, develop their community resources, and achieve long-term improvements in their lives and communities.

PartnerAid is serving over 155,000 people in North Darfur through primary healthcare and community development. The persons living in As Salam IDP Camp north of El Fasher, and in the rural areas south and southwest of El Fasher (Dar as Salam and rural Tawila) benefit from the following projects:
We work in North Darfur in the areas:

Health

  • We operate six primary healthcare clinics and health posts that have more than 10,000 consultations a month.
  • We provide out-patient, vaccination, reproductive health and referral services and needed medications at all of our health facilities.
  • We have a training program for IDPs and community members to learn about reproductive health issues.
  • We implement immunization campaigns to reach rural children with vaccinations and pregnant women with vitamin supplements.
  • We support women in attending a local midwifery school.
  • We provide dental care and oral hygiene messages to clinic patients.

Community Development
  • We allow communities to propose projects that would benefit their whole population and then we provide funding and assistance so projects such as water resources, grinding mills, adult learning centers, schools, and latrines can be constructed.
  • We build and equip classrooms in communities without schools.
  • We carry out health education trainings to spread messages of sanitation, hygiene, and illness prevention and treatment.

While there is still conflict in Darfur, there are also many reasons for hope. Local residents in Darfur receive quality healthcare services, have opportunities to develop their communities and build new lives with hopes of a positive future.
