Since February, 17th 2008 the Kosovo is an independent State. After 10 Years under Administration of the UN the Kosovars declared their Independence single-handed. In the mean time most of the European- and also many other States have accepted the Kosovo as an Independent State.
Regardless of this many people in Kosovo cannot see a future for their life and the life of their descendants. The economic Situation in the young State is disastrous. This promotes shady dealings such as Drugs, Weapons and Human trafficking. Above all it is heroin that comes from Afghanistan and from Kosovo in all Europe distributed. The drug consumption is also in the own country dramatically increased. Desperation crept in. With STREHA, the until now only and first drug rehabilitation centre in Kosovo, we want to set an example.

How is the society STREHA originated?
The unsolved Problems with the drug rehabilitation brought some committed people of the Region Prizren to found the association STREHA (Refuge). The objective of the association is to give drug addicted People a home in order to integrate them later in the society.

How does the Project look like?
STREHA shall be a Therapy as a biocoenosis. The therapy program is oriented as a long term therapy. The therapy facility shall start with 5 participants.
As the field of work we will start a small truck farm. Trough the vegetable cultivation the personal requirements will be covered and by the sale of over plusses they will be an additional income, that contribute to the maintenance of the project. The participants head for a sense full job that confronts them with the earning of the daily bread.
Local Staff from STREHA shall be trained trough some experts from Germany and Switzerland in that was that they are able to lead the Centre und their own responsibility.
The goal is it, that in 10 years the project will work cost-covering through the agricultural work and also through local funds.

What will be the next steps that will lead to fruition of the project?
An appropriate property with the size of 90 Aaren and with two existing houses is located and a first deposit is made. The cost of the property is 255.000 franc. Additional 15.000 franc are need for the rebuilding and renovation of the two houses so that the therapy can start.
In summer 2009 the rebuilding and renovation is scheduled.
Under the circumstances that the funds are available, in November / December 2009 the therapy shall start.

Professional Backing
A work with addict people is multilayered and complex. As the staff for this work stand one nurse from Germany and from Switzerland one employee for drug rehabilitation / work therapy (Agriculture) and from the year 2010 two social pedagogue on hand. The project get an additional professional backing from the manager of the therapy centre "Best Hope" (http://www.besthope.ch) Peter Daenzer from Switzerland.
