Since 4 years Partner Aid International (PAI) is active in North Darfur / Sudan crisis area. In early 2008 PAI has restarted its medical care activities in the region of Khazan Tunjur, after a halt of its work for several month it this area. New violence in the region around Khazan Tunjur , since a week prevent any medical care for the population living west of Al-Fashir.
Several eye witness reports say that a clinic as well as 4 surrounding villages have been burned down on Sunday Morning. Large groups of the remaining population in the area are fleeing the area. PAI – staff has not been affected, so far. For security reasons, PAI-staff evacuated the area on Tuesday. Detailed information on any damage done can only be gained as soon as the situation allows for safe access of the affected area.
The situation for the population is bad, as with halt of the PAI medical clinics, no medical care is available in the area. Furthermore it is expected that the number of IDP’s will increase in the refugee camps near the city of Al Fashir. PAI provides medical care at the refugee camp of Al-Salaam as well as in city of Dar- al- Salaam in North Darfur. Partner Aid International is an international organisation for development cooperation and relief.
