Crisis in Pakistan

Reconstruction of schools and help for traumatized children

 maedchen

In recent years, Pakistan’s North West Frontier Province has suffered significantly from humanitarian disasters.

This year, following a short-lived peace deal with the government, militants spread further into the province. The Pakistani military responded with a massive military offensive. The renewed conglict affected Swat, Buner, Upper Dir, Lower Dir, Bajour, and Shangalal Districts. The resulting displacement of 2 million people within the space of a few months was one of the most rapid and large-scale internal displacements in recent history.

Somaliland

PAI is involved in a community-based health program which empowers residents of rural communities to address their own health needs through culturally-appropriate trainings. PAI's work aims to improve the survival and health of children, lessening the number of children who currently die each year from preventable diseases. Building on past programs which addressed the needs of homeless children in Somaliland, PAI partners with the city of Hargeisa to build a child-friendly community area, including a playground and sports ground in order to promote healthy childhood interaction and development.

Here is our Somaliland project.

Yemen

PAI staff in Yemen are focusing on training local community representatives in health promotion concepts, enabling them to impact the development of their communities without the need for the presence of outside experts. This is increasingly important at a time when the difficult security situation in the country restricts international staff's travel out of major cities.

Here are our Yemen projects.
