PAI recognises the importance of culture of a community as a core factor of all interactions and activities. Partnership in development can only happen effectively if there is common understanding. This is why the cultural sensitivity of our staff is very important to us.
Together with CIM - Center for International Migration (an agency of the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development) PAI assists the population of Kurgan-Teppa, in the Central Asian State of Tadjikistan by strengthening the micro-credit organisation FURUZ. Tadjikistan is one of the poorest countries of the Former Soviet Union, and has suffered a civil war that left the economy shattered.
Partner Aid International has been responding to the Crisis in North-West Pakistan since the violent conflict increased at the Afghan-Pakistani border in the latter part of 2008. The fighting between government troops and militants has caused mass movement of Internally Displaed People (IDPs) to flee to villages ouside of the conflict area to be given shelter by host communities and to IDP camps, such as Jalozai camp, Peshawar.
With the increase in violent conflict since May 2009 and up to 2 million displaced from their homes, forced to live in very difficult conditions with very limited access to essential services, PAI is in the process of gearing up it's response.
We need your help to make this reality. PAI is an organisation funded by charitable giving. The more the public give the more PAI is able to work alongside communities and work effectively - always with long term recovery in mind.
